LENT 2014 - Ash Wednesday Reflection. Dear brothers and sisters, The holy season of Lent is here again. This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and well commence the 40-day journey leading up to Easter. This year, I implore you to make a deeper commitment to recharge your faith and soul more than youve ever done before. Each year, The Church sets aside 6weeks+ as a yearly second chance for us to take a long loving look at our lives to see if our values and priorities are in line with Gods desire for us. And as individuals and as a people we inevitably drift away from God through sins of comission and omission, thereby losing our rightful standing with God. Lent therefore becomes a time to return to God with our whole hearts. We are expected to do this through fasting, prayer, acts of charity and penance. We are also expected to participate in weekly Stations of the Cross. However, it is important not to see Lent as something to be endured, rather it is a time of great grace and spiritual growth. Denying ourselves of food and other things we enjoy reveals our dependence on God. Jesus went through the passion and death and gained his glory at the end. We accompany him on this journey so that we may be reconciled with God and rise into our rightful place now and always...and in a special way, at Easter. So brothers and sisters, now is the time to make commitments. What are you giving up this Lent? What are you resolving to do for the good of your soul and the good of others? God bless you.
