LEONARD FEIGENBLATT REPORTS ON DEBORAH VOIGTS CONVERSATION AT THE 92ND STREET Y Deborah Voigt in Conversation with Francesca Zambello @ the 92Y on Wednesday April 23. Deborah Voigt is one of the world’s leading dramatic sopranos renowned for performances in the operas of Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner. She has performed in opera houses and concert halls all across the United States and around the world. For the last couple of seasons she has tackled the role of ‘Brunnhilde’ in the Metropolitan Opera’s new Robert Lepage production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle. This year at the Metropolitan Opera she starred as ‘Marie’ in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck. In addition, Deborah Voigt has also performed two concerts for the American Songbook series and played the role of Annie in Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun in Glimmerglass. Francesca Zambello is an opera and theatre director. She is the artistic director of the Glimmerglass Festival and Washington National Opera. On Broadway, she directed the musical The Little Mermaid. The two talked about many subjects and answered audience questions. The spoke about what they were currently doing: Francesca is the artistic director of both Glimmerglass and Washington National Opera where she runs the young artist program; a program that Ms. Voigt has been involved in mentoring young artists. Deborah, is addition to her many opera roles and concert performances, she is currently writing her memoir which is scheduled for publication later this year by HarperCollins. In connection with the release of her biography, she will be performing her one woman autobiographical show Voigt Lessons which was written with Tony Award winner Terrence McNally that she debut in Glimmerglass a couple of years ago. They also spoke of their many collaborations: Having previously both worked on the opera Salome, the two were going to revisit that opera for the Dallas Opera in October.
