LESSON 5 As the previous bands assumed their legendary statuses, Coal Chamber formed in the mid 90s. Drawing from the genres of Gothic Metal, Industrial Metal as well as Thrash Metal, they were almost lost in the background as Metal witnessed a rebirth. When they were noticed, they got clustered in with the Nu Metal movement (which I just found had a name). As Coal Chamber struggled to find footing, founding member of Fear Factory, Dino Cazares, noticed their unique style and used his influence at Road Runner Records to get them their first record deal. However, the members of Coal Chamber, especially front man Dez Fafara, still didnt like being grouped with other Nu Metal acts. Much to Dezs pleasure, Coal Chamber began a tour with Type O Negative. This provided Coal Chamber with a more eclectic crowd as well as an opportunity to expand their style. By 2000, they were huge, but like so many other groups began to implode under their own fame, ultimately disbanding in 2003. But if you havent heard the news yet, Coal Chamber is back together and have a new album scheduled for 2015. Its weird seeing Dez nowadays when compared to 1997, the year of their first video came out, Loco.
