LETTER FROM WISCONSIN Dear Uncle Nice try Mr. Ryan, but come, - TopicsExpress

LETTER FROM WISCONSIN Dear Uncle Nice try Mr. Ryan, but come, come and come again!! The honourable representative from the first Congressional District of my adopted home state, Wisconsin, Mr. Paul Ryan by all measure is a fine man of great intellect and achievement that is just so remarkable considering the fact that he is in his early 40’s. He has been a vice presidential candidate which in and of itself is no small achievement but he also serves as the powerful Chairman of the House Budget Committee. I might never in my lifetime achieve what he has done in his forty years of existence but I will also not let him off the hook when he makes arguments that simply ‘refuse to hold water’. Mr. Ryan’s deftness at selective amnesia and his propensity to dwell on matters and distort facts that are only are important to him and his cohort only amazes and amuses me but I refused to bemused and confused by his trickery and will call him out when I see such opportunities. Whilst enjoying my morning cup of Keurig-brewed cappuccino, I read his opinion in the Wall Street journal titled “Here’s how we can end this Stalemate”. In that piece he lambasted the President for refusing to negotiate revision of the debt ceiling even though Ronal Reagan, Bill Clinton and even Obama himself did so previously. He might be right about previous presidents negotiating on the debt ceiling but that was not done with a gun pointed to their heads. And what makes him think that this time negotiations will work? The premise where he negotiates until he gets 100% of all he wants is not tenable. At the last debt ceiling deal, the Speaker proudly proclaimed “I got 98% of all I wanted”. If that is what you call negotiations then “take your negotiations somewhere else” as we say in Ghana!! But just in case he has short term memory may I kindly remind him of how many negotiations have taken place with nothing concrete realised, all because he refused to budge on just one request from Democrats, which was revenue generation. So he wants reforms in so called “entitlement” programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid but still wants to keep subsidies for rich oil companies and pharmaceuticals as well banks who continue to rake in trillions of dollars every year in profits. How did he vote on the Simpson-Bowles commission for debt reduction? No. What happened to the Super committee that was supposed to come up with recommendations on deficit reduction? Zilch. They even negotiated for over 3 months and could not come to any agreement so what makes Mr. Ryan think that within 1 week a meaningful agreement on deficit reduction under duress of a government shutdown and default would be achieved? And why did Mr. Ryan refuse to nominate conference members to meet with Senate Democrats in April to iron out their differences with the budget? Is it because his communist inferior tactics dictate that when he has a hostage with a gun pointed to the head, he can bamboozle his way through the negotiating process? Thank God that for once this President has balls to stand up to his nonsense because this time we are all going down the gutter, big time!! Let me remind him of his so called conservative record and show him how abysmal they are. To me I don’t even consider him as a conservative. Mr. Ryan voted three times for a stimulus package under George Bush and voted twice for an unfunded war with supplementary budgets. To add insult to injury he then voted for a Medicare Drug Plan with a big hole called ‘donut hole’ for seniors, one of the biggest government expansions of that plan which greatly added to the deficit. By the way, Mr. Ryan that hole has been closed by ‘Obamcare’ and seniors are keeping the savings in their pockets where they can use it as and how they want. That is what conservatism is all about!! If he were a deficit hawk, he would push for immigration reforms and ‘Obamacare’. The Congressional Budget Office, from which source he quoted profusely in his article, estimate that both programs would reduce our deficits by billions of dollars. And how does Mr. Ryan justify paying for the “Iraq War” which was so unpopular with the American people but refuse to pay for ‘Obamacare’ which is a law that was passed by a duly elected Congress, vetted and deemed constitutional by the Supreme Court, and has the potential to help millions of Americans get health insurance? And how does Mr. Ryan explain his support for irrational actions about first defunding, postponing Obamacare and then not knowing what the tea party wants in all of this nonsense? Mr. Ryan and his crazy tea party ilk profess to abide by the tenets of the Constitution. Let me remind you of the 14th amendment which states “the validity of the public debt of the United States, authorised by law, is sacrosanct and shall not be questioned” I humbly advice them to ignore the Constitution and see how far and wide this ‘shitty’ thing will blow. Thank you for your time and audience. Your conservative-friend-in-waiting Lionel Lloyd Ludwig Van Berko
