LETTERMAN RETIRING: Talk-show host David Letterman is announcing on his show tonight that he will retire next year, CNN is reporting. The show-biz journal Variety adds that Letterman, whos famous for his Top 10 Lists, will finish out the two-year contract extension that he signed with CBS last year. Letterman has been with the network for 21 years, and was at NBC for 11 in the time slot following Johnny Carson. Letterman was passed over to replace Carson on The Tonight Show by Jay Leno (who himself retired a few months ago), which led him to bolt for CBS.
