LIFE PLAGIARIZES ART! FAGIN, the big meanie at the center of Charles Dickenss novel, Oliver Twist, now lives (at) large in Phoenix, Arizona. His current incarnation is, suitably enough, MR. BURNS! FAGIN trained the orphans he took in as pickpockets. MR. BURNS? True, I picked his consignment store. True, his staff picked up the furniture and antiques I had inherited and wished to sell. But in the end, sadly, he simply picked my pocket himself. And thats the damned truth, too. Theres another important difference between Dickens novel and my story. FAGIN, at the end of Dickens work, is hanged. Thus far, having received nary a penny for the over $15,000 worth of my items reported sold by MR. BURNSs Camelback Consign and Design between July and September, Im the one hanging - upside down! Hey, dont call the police. It aint theft. I signed a contract. No, its a civil breach. Neither the police nor the county prosecutor will act to protect the public. The Public must go to court, wait months, spend hundreds or thousands of $, then attempt to enforce a claim. What a lovely scam. Even better for MR. BURNS, as he owns no real property against which a lien could be placed. (More about that shortly!) Is it any wonder that predators grow so fat in Phoenix? Merry Xmas to you, too, MR. BURNS!
