LIMAVADY TOWN & DISTRICT DART LEAGUE WEEK 7 Banter B 4-2 AA The AA boys made their way to the disco bar that is Banters for the second visit of the season to take on Ryan Moore’s Banters B team. This was going to be a very noisy night because as soon as the hotels edjits walked in the door all they could hear was the Loaf and Ramsay roaring and gowling at the end of the bar. These two bucket mouths were that loud that you could hardly hear the duke box. Things didn’t get any better when Adrian Pearson landed down beside the two men and started his usual gob-shitting. Eventually the draw was made and first up Ryan “Country Boy” Moore against Craig Cupples. These two men played a great game of darts together and pushed each other right down to the wire but it was Ryan who had more bottle and was able to find the winning double for a tight 2-1 victory. Next up Chrissy “Cabinet Maker” Smith was up against young Eugene Anderson. Eugene didn’t really put up much of a fight in this game and with good steady score and a nice 88 check-out Chrissy soon won 2-0. Mary O’Hara new she was drawn against Martin Barr and before her match she was texting her hubby David asking for a bit of advice on how to beat the big man from Articlave but unfortunately the form that Martin was in there was just no beating him, with a 180 and a 16 darter he soon won his match 2-0. Next up Ben “Big Guns” Taylor had the pleasure of playing Adrian Pearson. Big Ben was well up for this game and had no fear against the in-form County player. With Pearson at his doubles like a big girls blouse young Taylor saw a great opportunity to clip the AA man’s ears and that is just what he did twice by beating him 2-0. Newcomer Eoin “Short Legs” Boyd was up against the dangerous Dwane Mullan. Young Eoin tried hard and played well but Dwane was just too strong on his doubles and soon won 2-0. The final match of the night was Stephen “Quiet Mouse” Douglas against Eamon Butcher. Eamon had the measure of his opponent but just could not find the winning double and Stephen stepped in and took this game 2-1. All you could hear from the crowd then was “Bang Bang Butcher has just had his bubble burst”. High scores – Ryan Moore 100, 124. Chrissy Smith 125, 88 finish. Ben Taylor 140. Eoin Boyd 100. Craig Cupples 2x100. Martin Barr 100, 140, 180, 16 darts. Adrian Pearson 2x100, 125, 140. Dwane Mullan 100. Eamon Butcher 140. Football Club 3-3 Douglas A High scores – Tony Kazceski 117. Chris Davis 125. Hugh McGill 117, 123. Chris McLaughlin 100. Mark Cossacaden 2x100, 121, 140. Eamon Duffy 4x100, 140. James McAlary 100. Mark Thompson 2x100, 120. Joe Dougherty 4x100, 120, 140, 19 darts. Ronan Curley 140. Douglas B 0-6 Thatch Rovers With all to play for Thatch Rovers can`t afford to slip up as they trail the leaders by four points. This week`s opponents Douglas B have a few players who can certainly cause surprises. The game began with the old man of the team Joe Donnelly showing the young guns of the side he still has a bit of fire left yet. His opponent Wilma McAteer could only look on as Joe began with 100,180,140 to leave 81.The Thatch man missed out on a great leg but shot out to take the first. The second leg was much the same as Joe found the treble with ease and to Wilma’s credit she played well but the heavy scoring of Joe (Missippi) Donnelly soon ran out a comfortable winner. Next in saw the Quiet man of darts David O’Hara take on Tina McDonald who herself can be a tricky opponent. The talent of O’Hara again stood out as he battered the treble and shot out well for the first leg. The second leg again saw David play out of his skin as his race away to a sweet victory. With the Thatch men now 2 in front it was the turn of Conrad Watson who is playing out of his skin. His opponent Ryan Marshall knew the county star would take some beating. Ryan did show signs of form but the smooth throwing Watson was in a class of his own as he raced away with the first. The second leg again had the Douglas team looking on as Watson put on a show as he missed nothing to claim another for the away team. It was now the turn of Albert McDonald who without doubt is one of league’s top players. His opponent Danny O’Neill needs no introduction to the game as he can be a match to any player in the country. The talent of McDonald soon took command as his heavy scoring had Danny playing catch up. Both players raced to the double and the experience of O’Neill held out to take the first. Again the heavy scoring of Albert soon raced away to leave him on a finish as Danny could only prepare for a Final leg. The third lag saw O’Neil take command with some great scoring. His opponent Albert staying at his heels as they again raced to the double, the crowd now silent as Danny stepped to the oche with Albert waiting to bounce on any mistake. The big guy from Dungiven calmly shot out with his last dart to the relief of his team mates as Albert knew he was so close to victory. The wee tyre man John Moore had the young talent of Seamus McAteer to contend with next. The x county and International star soon took command as young McAteer could only look on .The second leg had the young lad of Douglas show more fight but again Moore raced away to leave 146. With the thought of pushing aside the 145 finish of Adrian Pearson earlier in the season the wee man picked the treble 20 out, followed by treble 18 to leave double 16, the crowd on their toes Moore picked out the double to show he still has the magic touch. Great finish shouts the crowd. Sadly the crowd paused for a moment at the memory of Adrian’s 145 finish. That was now history and the bumming would surly come to an end. Thatch now 5 in front they knew only six would keep them in contention for the title. Their up and coming young star in Sean Donnelly knew he needed to deliver as his opponent Richard Douglas had other ideas on his head. The young talent of Donnelly soon had Richard scratching his head as Sean showed why he is now a force in the league. The young talented star must have a great future as the experience within his fellow team mates will teach him the tricks of the trade. The Thatch lad soon shot out to take the first and didn’t take long with heavy scoring to complete a great victory for his side. PS. The home side will know they meet a very strong side who are now firing on all cylinders and the Thatch men will be well pleased with the result which must surly close the gap. High scores – Albert McDonald 2x140, 20 darts. Joe Donnelly 3x100, 140, 180, 20 darts. David O’Hara 135, 140. Conrad Watson 2x100, 121, 140, 18 & 19 darts. Danny O’Neill 100, 123. John Moore 100, 140, 146 finish. Sean Donnelly 100, 140. Thatch B 4-2 Banters A High scores – Lee Mullan 125. Rolly Wilson 100, 140. Paul Kane 2x100, 103. Raymond McElhinney 2x100. Simon Dunn 125, 140. Eric Morrison 112. Rab Tinney 100. Archie Archibald 100. Colm Kitchener 120, 132. Steven Lockett 2x100. Banters C 3-3 The Pot Forth placed Pot Bar travelled into town to the excellent venue of Banters Bar to take on league leaders Banters C. What a start Alan Kane’s side have had to the league campaign sweeping aside teams with ease and last week’s thumping win over Douglas A would have struck fear into the chasing pack and its little wonder they sit proudly at the top of the pile so a daunting task lay ahead for the Drumsurn side but, with quality players at Benny’s disposal the Pot were confident of getting something for the match. What a pairing to start the evening as two battle hardened men of darts faced off in the opener. Willie McElwee and Paddy McLaughlin always entertain when on the Oche and this was no different as they played out an excellent game with both men looking extremely confident and it was Willie who had the edge when it came down to the check-out taking both legs to claim a superb 2-0 win. Mickey Carlin and Sean Mullan quickly got the second game under way. This was another cracker as both players hit some tremendous scores to keep the crowd on their feet and again it was the ability to check out that proved to be the difference between this pairing and that ability belonged to the home player as Mickey secured a great 2-0 win. This was by far Sean’s best game to date as he threw some fantastic darts throughout and must feel disappointed coming away from this game with nothing to show for his efforts. The brilliant Charlene Kane would put the fear of God into any opponent but Seamus “Arty” Mullan isn’t just any opponent and the duo served up a great game and its games like these you just wish were the best of mine as the big scores were roping out of them and they hit no less than ten 100+ scores to keep everyone entertained but there had to be one winner and it was Seamus who brought his side right back into the mix with a fabulous deciding leg win. Things were about to get even better for the away team as the very reliable Jennifer Donaghy took on another gentleman of darts, Peter Burke. For this game Jennifer ditched her national health glasses to see if it could improve her game and boy did it work. Peter got off to the better start though and took the first leg with an excellent 90 outshot but “Our Doll” kicked into gear and pushed on for the win and level things up on the night at two each. All to play for now and the excitement was cranked up a few notches. Joe Mullan has made his way back onto the Pot team and if he could ever keep quiet long enough would pose a threat to anyone in this league. Alan Kane was his opponent on the night and they don’t come much tougher than this. Alan has deservedly worked his way onto the County team and there is no doubt he will make a worthy addition to the squad. The outcome of this game was never in doubt as Alan ran out a comfortable 2-0 winner. The home side were now back in front and the finish line was in sight but first Big Mervyn Mullan had to get past the Pot captain Benny Scullion and with both men in tremendous form this would prove to be a game of epic proportion. Mervyn loves his darts and has to be one of the quickest throwers in the league and is absolutely lethal on the doubles and it was no wonder he went one nil up within the blink of an eye. The battle was now surely on as the treble twenty was hit relentlessly and Benny calmly levelled up the game. With the customary handshake the decider was short and sweet as Benny fired in a thrilling 17 darter to achieve the unthinkable at the start of the night and that was to claim a result from the league leaders. Both teams have to be commended for the standard of darts produced on the night and it was there for all to see why Banters C are the early pace setters. The Pot, meanwhile, can be rightly proud of their efforts on the night and once again proved they are a very difficult side to put away. High scores- Willie McElwee 2x100, 125. Micky Carlin 140. Charlene Kane 2x100, 140. Peter Burke 3x100, 90 finish. Alan Kane 2x140. Mervyn Mullan 100, 123, 140. Paddy McLaughlin 140. Seamus Mullan 5x100, 2x140. Jenifer Donaghy 100, 125.
