LISTEN TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE: I had a strange dream the other night. In my dream, a woman who I went out with several times a long while ago who turned out to be sort of selfish and self righteous (right now there are three or four women who think Im talking about them) had a notebook and was lecturing me on my many faults. Strangely I was sitting there listening until she turned the page to share more of my shortcomings. The voice inside my head finally said, This is a dream, open your eyes. I did. My room was dark, I chuckled a little bit and went back to sleep. I have no idea what that dream means other than it reaffirmed my dislike for dishonest people who play with peoples hearts. We all have more than enough critics in our lives. I actually like most of my critics. The ones that hate me make me smile because I know Im in their head, the people that care about me I often need to hear what they are saying. I once had an employee teach me a lesson after I upset her because she thought my anger at a situation at work was directed at her. It broke my heart and I learned that day how to be a better boss. We need to hear criticism sometimes to grow. Growth is sometimes painful. Ignoring critics with harmful words isnt easy but it gets better with practice. Listening to those who come to us with the right intentions is hard too. I often say we should never base our self worth on people who think we are nothing. They are both wrong and stupid. They just want to drag us down and make us feel as miserable as they are every day. Today is another chance to make the haters hate us more. Smile and carry on. Happy Saturday.
