LITTLE STORY ABOUT THE BIRTH OF HANUMANJI,After killing Ravana many sages came to Ayodhyia to greet Lord Rama, praise n worship him.Sri rama told d rishis to tel him about d history of Rashasas, after discribing d linage of d king of d Rashasa.Rama then said,Great rishi, Ravana n Vali were certainly very powerful heroes. But i feel dat Hanumans prowess excels theirs.During my conquest of Lanka it was he alone dat enabled me to come out victorious n recover Sita. I shall never be able to express how indebted I am to Hanuman, the best of all my unalloyed savants. O great sages, there is a doubt in My mind dat I would like for u to dispel. When there was enmity b/w Vali n Sugriva, Wiy didnt Hanuman vanguish Vali? I think dat Hanuman could not hv been aware of his acual prowess. Otherwise, how could he hv stood by idly n watched Sugriva suffer? Foremost of rishis, u knw all mysterious truths. Pls narrate to me d wonderful pastime of Hanuman so dat My doubt can be removed. Hanuman was among those who were listening to dis consersation, n he experienced great great transcendental happiness upon hearing Ramas words. Agastya Muni replied,It is a fact dat there is no one who can equal Hanuman in terms of strength, speed or intelligence. However, it so happened dat he 4got his acual prowess, n how dis came about will be understood frm d story of his life. Vayu d god of air, through Anjana, d wife of Kesari, a monkey chief who formerly resided on Mount Meru, begot Hanuman. After delivering d child, Anjana went to gather fruit for him. But, in his mothers absence, d baby began to cry, n at dat time d sun rose over d horizon. When d baby monkey saw d luminous orange globe, he thought dat it was some kind of fruit, n so he sprang into d air to catch it. When d demigods saw d son of Vayu flying swiftly through d air, they were astonished n declared, Even d mind or Garuda cannot move so fast! If dis monkey can exhibit such prowess as a baby, then what wil he be like when he grows up? Vayu followed his son to protect him frm d scorching heat of d sun. When d baby monkey approached, Surya mercifully refrained frm burning him in consideration of his childish innocence, as well as d future mission dat he would execute on behalf of Lord Rama. Bcus of dis d son of Vayu way able to sit next to Surya on his chariot, But just at dat time, Rahu came to attack d sun. Instinctively, d baby monkey grabbed Rahau, But dat worst of celestials managed to slip out of his grip. Rahu then approached Indra n complained, Although I hv been alloted d sun n d moon as d means for appeasing my hunger, it appear dat my share had been taken by someone else. Just now, when I approached d sungod, I saw dat he was being attacked by another Rahu. Indra was astonished to hear dis, n so he mounted upon Airavata n started out for d sun. Rahu had gone on ahead, n when d son of Vayu saw him coming, he considered him to be a fruit n so sprang frm Suryas chariot to catch him. Rahu began to flee, crying out for Indras protection, n so, d king of heaven, who was approaching nearby, gave him assurances. Then when d baby monkey spotted Airavata, he took d elephant to be an enormous white fruit n so swiftly rushed toward him. When Indra saw dis, he released his thunderbolt, making d baby monkey fall down dead upon d mountain. Dis enraged Vayu, who then took his sons body n withdrew to a mountain cave. Bcus Vayu ceased to act as d air of respiration, all living beings began to suffocate , n their bowels n bladders bcame obstructed. With bloated bellies d demigods hurriedly approached Lord Brahma n anxiously informed him of their plight. Lord Brahma then said, It is due to Vayus anger dat u are now suffering. Just try to understand d importance of d windgod. Although he possesses no perceivable gross body, he moves within d bodies of all created beings. Infact, without air, a material body is no better than a block of wood. I suggest dat we all go n pacify Vayu, for d welfare of d world. Lord Brahma then led d demigods to were Vayu was staying. D windgod was tormented by d grief at d loss of his son n was still holding his body in his arms. After Vayu offered him obeisances, Lord Brahma affectionately placed his hand upon d baby monkeys head, n as a result, he was immediately brought back to life. Vayu then resumed circulating within all creatures. Lord Brahma said, If d future, dis child wil act for ur welfare, n so all of u should award him benediction. Indra toke of his garland of lotus flowers n put it around d baby monkeys neck. D King of heaven said, Bcus of his broken jaw, dis child will henceforward be known as HANUMAN. By my benediction, he no longer need fear my thunderbolt. D Sungod announced, I hereby donate one percent of my brilliance to Hanuman. In addition, I grant him full knowledge of shastra, along with an eloquent speaking ability. read next page
