It is said that "Ra gave us Heka as a weapon to ward off the negative effects of events..." (Sheps Kheti III). In some instances Heka is said to be the very essence of the universe, and the very power that gave birth to creation and everything in it. This being the case...Heka is also our essence. In the Medu Neter (Ancient Kemetic Language) there is no word for religion. However, when we examine the spiritual litarature, as well as every other type of literature we find Heka permeates throughout it all. In a way Heka and Kemetic Spirituality are one and the same. This fact unites the Kemetic Spiritual Tradition with most Afrikan Traditional Spiritual Practices. Many Afrikan people due to the influence of western culture via colonialism and slavery, have now come to look upon the ancient spiritual practices of our Ancestors with fear and disdain. We dismiss it as witchcraft, sorcery and want no parts of it for "masters" books say if we do it we will go to Hell. Simply put...that "voodoo/juju" scares us. However, what exactly is Heka and is it really evil? For something that was/is so much a part of Afrikan spirituality and culture to be considered evil...is to consider those that created and practice it evil as well. WHATS UP WITH THAT???
