LOCKDOWN UPDATE: Sue Coney, director of communications with South Bend Community School Corp., issued the following release: This morning before school started, as students were gathered in the gymnasium at Clay Intermediate Center, several altercations broke out among students. The principal called a lockdown at 7:40 in an effort to ensure the safety of all students as well as to investigate and resolve the conflicts. Students were held in their first class until 9:40 a.m. when the lockdown was lifted. The St. Joseph County police department was called and one student was detained. Clay Intermediate Center has been restored to its normal learning environment, but teachers have been reminded to be extra vigilant about hallway supervision. Parents were notified of the incident by the principal using our automated call system. The students involved in today’s incident were not injured, but will face disciplinary action. wsbt/news/local/clay-middle-school-put-on-lockdown-after-fight/26206828
