LOLA UPDATE! Cynthia here! Lola is doing great. She has had a rough time since joining AAAR, but is finally feeling and looking wonderful! After several vet visits for various conditions including kennel cough, distemper, staph infection, and so on and so on - she has improved so much. Dr. Huddleston saw her for another (final *paws crossed*- yay!) follow-up this past week where her distemper symptoms were reassessed and she was given another dip for her skin. He indicated that she will probably continue to have the neurological tics for her entire life, but he does not foresee - at this point - it getting any worse. He was impressed with how far she has come and gave her a clean bill of health other than the permanent symptoms (neurological) that will never really be cured. The two dips have really helped her skin - her hair has grown back and her coat is looking gorgeous again! Her coughing subsided several weeks ago. Overall, she has been happy and enjoying life. I first met Lola a few months ago when I transported her from the vet after she fell very ill with what was diagnosed at the time as kennel cough. My heart went out to her. She looked so sad and all she wanted was some love, laying her head on my lap as I got into the car. I did not think that a few short weeks later I would become her foster mom -- but I did! I was nervous at first having 2 chihuahuas and a toddler at home, but we all welcomed her with open arms to try and aid her in her recovery. It took a few days - as suspected - for all to get used to each other, but we made it work and now couldnt imagine a separation. She came to us just about a month ago now. We were hopeful that she would improve, as she has, and knew the day would come when applications for adoption would start rolling in for this gorgeous girl. :) Little did we know, at that time, that we wouldnt be able to let her go! And, we cant. And, we didnt, when a foster to adopt application came in last week. Lola has become our family - and now officially! Welcome to the Walsh clan sweet Lola!
