LONG POST!!! Without a doubt the biggest question I am being asked these days is, What do you think of the Ray Rice situation? I wanted to wait before I posted so that the people would have a chance to let their emotions out before considering my opinion. First off....as EVERYONE who is a friend of mine knows....I can not denounce violence towards women enough. Any man who would raise his hand to a woman makes me sick and I regard them as subhuman. Having said that, the NFL can not ban him indefinitely and this is why: 1. When the attack happened, it was investigated and determined Rice would get a two game suspension, 2. The Commissioner realized he had made a terrible error in assessing such a weak penalty and adopted a new policy....after reviewing the Rice case...and determined the new OFFICIAL policy is a six game suspension for first-time offenders and a lifetime ban for second-time offenders. 3. TMZ brings the video to the general public and the NFL quickly issues a statement saying Rice is now banned indefinitely....FOR THE SAME OFFENSE HE WAS ORIGINALLY BANNED FOR TWO GAMES! You simply can not do that if you are the NFL. Now, the Ravens are legally able to fire him just like any other employee. No other team has to pick him up and I hope they dont. I just dont think the NFL can say they are banning him indefinitely because of the severity of it. Just because she was knocked out does that really make it worse than any other event? The real loser in all of this is his wife. She has to relive that horrific event over and over again, deal with the people who cant believe she married him anyway, and now her incredibly wealthy, football-playing husband is unemployed and will not make what she was expecting him to make. I see no way she is a winner in all of this right now. My solution is the following: Penalty should be one-year suspension if convicted of any kind of domestic abuse case. The player should also have to complete an anger management course before being allowed to play again. The player needs to learn how not to let this happen again. Second offense?-Done. No chance for reinstatement. Alrighty....where am I wrong on this one? Opinions/Thoughts? Much love to everyone!
