LYME…CAN WE EVER GET PERFECTLY WELL? SOMEONE SAID...I was treated for Lyme with an herbal protocol and felt well for a few months, but then the symptoms returned. Perhaps I should have been treated with antibiotics after all. RESPONSE Even if treated with antibiotics you will still have recurrent episodes of Lyme ...BORRELIA BURGDORFERI [Bb] is really difficult to kill. PICTURE: BORRELIA BURGDORFERI [Bb] Borrelia burgdorferi [Bb] is a FACULTATIVE ANAEROBE and dislikes oxygen so it avoids spending a lot of time in the blood stream where there is more oxygen. DEFINITION “A facultative anaerobe is an organism that makes ATP by aerobic respiration if oxygen is present, but is capable of switching to fermentation or anaerobic respiration if oxygen is absent.” Borrelia burgdorferi [Bb] can live around oxygen but cannot replicate when there is too much oxygen in its environment...so, it will dive deeply down into tissues where there is less oxygen. HIDDING OUT When in a CYSTIC FORM and or in BIOFILMS it may be quiescent and appear to have disappeared...but it is still there, just waiting for its next opportunity to emerge and cause trouble. REPLICATION RATE It takes 28 to 30 days for Borrelia burgdorferi [Bb] to double [replicate]. It is an extremely SLOW replicator and can remain dormant. WHAT TO EXPECT Anyone being treated for Chronic Lyme should expect to be in it for the long haul...do not expect one round of antibiotics to kill them all. It may actually be impossible to get rid of every bacteria. STRENGTHENING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM Perhaps the best we can hope for is to get our immune systems strong enough to keep the Lyme under control. This is precisely all we can ever hope for when dealing with the HERPES FAMILY OF VIRUSES...these viruses may remain in us forever....This is why a person who had CHICKEN POX as a child, may get SHINGLES in a dermatomal region on one side of their body many years later, when their immune system gets seriously stress out and can no longer hold the virus in check.
