LYRICS AND BACKSTORY THE CHOICE (Matthews Song) Born of a mother, who will show you the way. A fathers hands held you, never led you astray. Wisdom in the words, you could hear him say. Words he lived by til his dying day. Fear not the shadow, for the shepherd is near. Nor wander in the darkness, when the way is unclear. Cling, with all your might, to what is dear. Look inside your heart, boy, Im still here. Im still here. Go now son, carry the torch. Like a beacon of light, in the eye of the storm. The devices of time are abound, do abide by the sound, of my voice. Steadfast, onward and upward, armed with the choice. Honor your mama now, choose you a wife. Celebrate every small, precious moment in life. Dont burden yourself with the struggles and the strife. Spread your wings now boys and learn to fly. Learn how to fly. Go now son, you must carry the torch. Like a beacon of light, in the eye of the storm. The devices of time are abound, do abide by the sound, of my voice. Steadfast, onward and upward, armed with the choice. Steadfast, onward and upward, armed with the choice. BACKSTORY: During late winter of 2012, I was writing a piece of work. I was dealing with writers block and I set it aside. However, not before I posted a bit of it on Facebook. I received one comment in response. It was from none other, than Matthew Harker. As God is my witness. Matt commented with one word and one word only. Wonderful! Now you can call that providence, or fate, or Devine intervention. Whatever eases your mind. I never picked that piece up again. Until last Friday. Not being a man who is exactly attuned to the workings of higher authority, it goes without saying, that I was indeed compelled that I should finish the journey, as Matt had finished his, so to speak. I took up my ink and parchment and the words flowed forth as if they were there the entire time, just waiting, patiently, for the appropriate time. I have been a wreck all week, wrought with anxiety. I didnt want to create something in the name of vanity or ill gotten gain. I just wanted to make a difference in someone elses life. Much like Matthew Harker did. I am a changed man for this. I am still me, just much more vigilant of the things that matter most in life. Im so grateful to have been able to share this. Thank you, one and all! Much love. Cheers! R.
