Labour after the budget. 1. It continues to support the freezes and caps on public sector pay. 2.They have committed themselves to the spending total set by the coalition for the first year of the next parliament. 3. Labour this week will whip its MPs to support the goverments welfare cap. Both the Observer editorial and Rawnsley points up correctly how Labour and Miliband are even failing within their own perspective to present an alternative narrative, thus providing the tories an opportunity to possibly sneak back in. The tories are brutally attacking the working people but they have a clear, pro-ruling class policy over accepting the market, cutting the deficit, freeing people from the state and so on. Labour accept the market and cut the deficit in the same way but bleat a bit about fairness. No wonder they arent even winning much at the moment. More than ever we need to not wait, but to build an independent political alternative now.
