Ladies please be aware of your surroundings at all times. About 30 minutes ago I was at the track in College Park getting in some laps. When I arrived there were four of us, after 15 mins down two. I had my phone in the case on my arm listening to music and my keys around my wrist. I noticed a guy and two young girls walking from the apts behind the track headed up the street. I got half way around, now they are sitting in the bleachers. I thought it was weird because the guy sat at the top and got on his phone and the girls were at the bottom sitting on the wall. No big deal, I proceeded to walk because there was a guy still on the track with me...my eyes and ears on alert. (Zone 3 all day, the streets taught me well) Two more times around the track, the guy left that was there when I arrived. Now its me and the three in the bleachers. I get back around the track, they suddenly disappear. Here comes a guy on a dirt bike with a pair of jeans sagging, two t-shirts on and a pair of high-top sneakers and a cap on his head(he had dread locks). As he was passing me, he looked back to see my face. So now Im close to the 200 yard line no one else in sight, hes near the finish line; I was tired, on mile four, left shin splint aching bad. I felt in my gut he was going to try and take my phone and probably the keys to my truck. I immediately began running half speed trying to get to my truck. He starts to pick up speed, still on the bike going around the track. Once I got to the 100 yard line, I began sprinting, I could hear him coming up behind me by the time I reached the finish line. He didnt understand I was reserving just enough energy to take it on in. I may not be in the best shape, but my legs have never failed me. Once I got in my truck, he was cruising again as if he wasnt up to no good. All I could do was thank Jesus for protecting me and giving me the speed to out run him on that bike. He looked like he was in his late twenties. Lesson learned today...
