Lakeland Trails Marathon, Coniston completed on Sunday in 6:43. Late update due to poor phone signal. I had the most amazing weekend with a of group of friends affiliated through Sweatshop Fulham who I subsequently met through Fulham Palace parkrun. Seven of us drove up from London early on Saturday morning with the 8th member of our party travelling across from Ireland, joining us in Coniston for lunch followed by number collection that afternoon. Between us we took on either the half or full mara running around the stunning lakes, sprawling hills (mountains!) and countryside of the Lake District. Like the South Downs Way 2 weeks ago, this was mainly a run/jog/walk affair for me, although less walking this time being in slightly better health. It was a much tougher, more technical course with many different terrains to navigate including slate, rocks (lots of loose ones) and tree rooted woodland areas. Despite having my eyes cast down mindful of where I planted my feet, I still managed to trip over more times than I can remember but thankfully I managed to stay upright on this occasion. My first experience of youth hostelling (in the UK). I would highly recommend it, especially if youre touring as much as I am right now. Six of us shared a private room in Hawkshead, just outside Coniston and it worked surprisingly well. Neither words or my photos can capture how lovely this weekend was or how much I enjoyed the company of such a fabulous group of people including the lovely Gary and Sandy. Thank you and well done to you all. Love. xxx
