Lambton Hetton & Joicey Colliery Railway 0-6-2T No.29 was built by Kitson & Company in 1904 (works no.4263) as the first of several similarly-designed locomotives for industrial use, and maintained at the LH&JCRs Lambton Engine Works, Philadelphia, County Durham. All locomotives on the LH&JCR were built or modified to a unique loading gauge, which resulted in a rounded-cab profile to enable them to work through the narrow bored tunnel to Lambton Drops (coal staiths) at the Port of Sunderland on the North Sea coast. Now preserved on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, No.29 is seen here on a special visit to the Tanfield Railway for their Autumn Mining Machines Gala weekend. More about the Lambton Railway here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambton_Railway Thanks to the Tanfield Railway for this appropriately sylvan scene! -Phil
