Jackson said people who have seen the exhibit are impressed by the #portraits but especially moved by the #biographical information. Along with the Lanker exhibit, a #photography #exhibit “#America the Beautiful: The #Monumental #Landscapes of #Clyde Butcher” is capturing the imagination. #Butcher is a #traditionalist in his insistence on working in #silver-based photography, using #darkroom #techniques and eschewing the digital medium. His enormous black and white photographs depict what Jackson refers to as “nature with a capital ‘N’” on a monumental scale. “Nature is not just the trees and rocks of the surrounding landscape, but (Butcher) tries to capture a king of quality of light and composition and mood or feeling that makes you in awe of the scope of #Nature, the large expanse of Nature,” said Jackson. Butcher’s subjects, then, must be large, too. He #photographs entire landscapes and allows the viewer to take in the complexity, Jackson said.
