Laser beam to remove space junk A group of scientists stationed at the School of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Australian National University, believes that a laser system could be ready within ten years. Australia and have a current NASA space junk to screen, with the intervention of a telescope located at the Mount Stromlo Observatory, which has an infrared laser contract. Now, with 20 million Australian dollars from the government and 40 million earned by private road, the Cooperative Research Centre will be created (in which participating companies like Lockheed Martin and Optus), with the mission of developing lasers that can track even smaller objects. The ultimate goal is to increase the power of lasers to a level suitable for removing waste from Earth orbit
