Last Monday our visit at the psychologist resulted in him saying - TopicsExpress

Last Monday our visit at the psychologist resulted in him saying that he doesnt know what he can do on a mental health side of thing to help or benefit Jacobi after i had explained that the Strattera Jacobi had been prescribed by him were causing more fatigue and irritability in Jacobi.. I felt the dosage prescribed seemed to exacerbate the Narcolepsy symptoms disadvantaging Jacobi to the point where he needs to nap every 2 hours and school have a problem enforcing this then the behaviours increase due to his tiredness. I decided that it maybe better off of the Strattera...i hate the thought of the long term effects of these meds anyway and given that if it doesnt improve Jacobis everyday quality of life, it definitely isnt worth the risks associated with taking them. So i waited a few days and discussed with Jacobis father our best choice and that was to remove the Strattera from Jacobis medications. On Thursday I ceased the Strattera, he was on a very low dose and could be safely stopped.... Friday Jacobi was his behaviour was a little increased, very demanding and intimidating but Saturday.....woah!!!! He was so unsettled, temperamental and violent more so than the past few months. We had to use our techniques at least 5 times to restrain and calm him and come Sunday (Today) we again had to restrain and calm him a few times. He is biting, kicking, spitting and very dangerous. We hate to restrain Jacobi but in instances where he is a danger to himself, us or the other children we have no alternative but to, we have been trained in a gentle rear hold technique for restraining and also an assisted frontal hold for extreme situations. During each restrain we calmly explain that as soon as we feel it is safe we will release him, we also explain we are holding him because we love him. It isnt easy on us mentally nor emotionally especially at times like this. I am so frustrated and worried....The Strattera was obviously working to improve many of these behaviours so we know we are going to have to re administer the Strattera to Jacobi, but trying to find the balance between the behaviours and sleep is a struggle.... Here goes another week of anger and upheaval.. The Psychologist also refused to assess Jacobi for Aspergers as he said it costs too much to do... In the meantime im still waiting for the Paediatric Neurologist to contact me with a booking date for Sydney Childrens Hosp for Jacobis Lumbar Puncture.... A big mambo jumbo atm and no answers....fingers crossed it all comes together soon.
