Last October I lost a bet on the World Series when Boston beat St. Louis. Part of the bet was that I wear a Chicago Cubs shirt during the Saturday night games at the Benton Invitational Tournament. Obviously me being a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan I didnt have a Cubs shirt. I put out a plea on Facebook to borrow one and within 15 minutes Pat Styve was at my front door with the Cubs shirt and that very familiar grin. I never did return the shirt because I am still supposed to wear it one more time when I take the guy I lost to out for a steak dinner. Pat Styve was killed in a car wreck yesterday and this morning I happened to see the Cubs shirt in my closet. I took it off the hanger and folded it neatly and placed it in a prominent place on a shelf in my all-Cardinals memorabilia room. I cringed a little when I put it there ... which of course Pat would think was very funny. Given his quick wit and sense of humor I can just imagine what he might say. I will miss our Facebook exchanges (which sometimes bordered on insults) about the Cards and Cubbies. RIP Pat Styve ... your shirt has found a forever home.
