Last September while volunteering at IM Tahoe I blurted out that I wanted to do Barbs Race in 2014. Fast forward to November and I receive at text from Wendy Sones León and Kathy Lewis saying have you signed up for Barbs? Sigh I think now I am accountable ;) If you all have wondered why I have talked about this race so much it is because when I am held accountable I will do it:) The interesting thing about this race is I should have been nervous and scared. However friday night I was eerily calm and relaxed. Rising at 4am to eat and prep I still felt calm. Usually in the water before the swim I am so nervous I contemplate turning around. Saturday I did not have those thoughts or fears. As I transitioned to the bike I thought one down two to go! The bike course was beautiful I had a few aches and pains( one being having to find a bathroom!) When I came into T2 the thought crossed my mind OMG I still have to run a half marathon. Off I trotted out of T2(because it was a long freaking transition ). It was hot and I saw two people down (yes they had help) I keep telling myself t push on and HYDRATE. At mile 7 my foot really hurt and I got a little whiney to myself....but when I hit mile 10 I thought piece of cake I have a 5K left. Everyone on the run was so encouraging from either go Elk Grove or just great job. As I was approaching the turn into the finish chute I saw Dave on the street big smile and saying youve got this babe I picked up my pace and ran thru the finish ribbon and yes I started to cry. I honestly still can not believe I have accomplished this. It is not the distance or the activity it really is about picking a goal and working towards and achieving that goal. I have so many people to thank. I am so blessed to have spent the weekend Wendy, Kathy, Laura, Angie and Dave. Big Kudos to Laura Donnellon Bagley on getting it done! Thank you to David Burnside for believing in me, loving me, encouraging me I love you ;) ( and of course being our personal sherpa for the weekend)
