Last Sunday morning, my message was on whether or not the American Dream was worth chasing. We looked at Ecclesiastes 2 and how King Solomon had acquired everything he desired and yet he declared it as meaningless, a chasing after the wind. We decided that the American Dream is SHORT-TERM Thinking, SELF-CENTERED, a NEVER-ENDING CYCLE, and it ultimately NEVER SATISFIES! As part of my message I gave 7 ways to Break the Cycle of the American Dream.... 1. Move Beyond CONSUMERISM (Get involved with community, service, inviting friends/family, and give) 2. Understand PROPERTY RIGHTS (We do NOT belong to ourselves anymore) 3. Get EXCITED! (Do we make IDOLS of football and sports?) 4. Take a RISK for Jesus! (Not something stupid, but something that would bring God glory!) 5. Ask the question- Where am I HEADED? 6. Choose GREATER Joy! (Hebrews 12:2) 7. Ask God for GREATER PASSION for Him! I have already heard of a Catalyst Member taking a RISK this week by sharing her experience of Jesus with a friend. Long story short- the friend responded to the Good News of forgiveness and grace and became a Christ-follower! What RISK are you willing to take? Do you need to forgive someone? Do you need to INVITE someone to church? Do you need to start praying daily or reading a bit of scripture each morning or evening? Do you need to give up a destructive habit? Is there someone that you need to sit down with and explain to about Jesus? Take a RISK! Life is boring otherwise....
