Last Wednesday at Hacienda Hotel Tango Experience....there was a large group of men, who were standing around in the bar area and cluelessly taking up some dance floor space. They were drinking and having a good time, didnt seem to have any harm in mind, but still...they were infringing onto our dance space. Being that Hacienda Hotel bar area is a public space and is open to anyone, also being that we have four dance floor and pay no cover charge for dancing there, I decided NOT to ask them to move. It seemed to me like they were intently watching us all dance and didnt really get in the way, especially considering the fact that we know how to navigate around the obstacles (right???). Later one that night, after I was done teaching and milonga was well on its way, three guys came all the way around the dance floor to talk to me. They started telling me that they are all from New Zealand and are here to do a 28-day long motorcycle ride. They kept telling me that they have never seen anything as beautiful as what they were witnessing on the dance floor that night. They were absolutely memorized and blown away by how amazing tango dancing is. They spent good 30 minutes talking to me and asking me details about tango and I patiently explained what it was all about. They even asked me to show one of them how it works. So, I took them to the dance floor in the back and showed them what lead and follow really means, starting from shifting the weight and walking together. They were very apologetic for being slightly drunk, still very attentive and very thankful that I took the time to do that. I also told them they can look up Argentine Tango classes where they live and most likely find them anywhere in the world. I also mentioned that their wives would really love it ;-) This I mentioned after they asked me if I wanted to come along on this trip with them and teach them tango on the road...for a second I thought that would be way cool (but only for a second). I am hoping they will remember this moment when they get back home to their families. SO, this is how we roll at Hacienda Hotel Tango Experience! All are welcomed!
