Last evening we spotted an injured bat in the sand school. I found the number of the local wild animal hospital and rang them to get advice about what to do with the it. I was advised to put it in a box (wearing gloves or with a towel) and give it water in a jam jar lid. It crawled willingly into my box, but when I went back to give it a drink in the jam jar lid it had gone! It was a brown and hairy little bat, with small pointy ears and black wings - one of which was out of order. The bat lady from Guildford rang me this morning hoping to collect it, and I was embarrassed to report it had gone. I searched everywhere I could for the little thing but it is now somewhere in my barn. They are much smaller than you think.
