Last month I captured this image at my observatory and just got around to processing the data. The Rosette Nebula is a giant molecular cloud of gas in the constellation Monoceros. Also known as NGC2244, this object is about 5,000 Light Years from Earth. There is so much activity in this region, an open star cluster in the middle where interstellar radiation from new stars is peeling back the clouds. New stars are being born and the whole place is a hot mess on the order of 6 million kelvins where the hottest O and B-class stars emit enormous amounts of X-ray radiation. Captured with AstroTech AT-130 f/6 using Canon 60Da mounted on EQ-6Pro. Image contains 11 x 600s exposures at ISO 1,600. Captured with BackYard EOS, processed with PixInsight.
