Last month, the Panama Canal celebrated its 100th Anniversary. This terrific article from San Bernardino Sun provides an overview of the impact of the canals opening on California, particularly the Inland Empire. The piece notes that the Canals opening led to two major celebrations in the State, including the Panama Pacific International Exhibition in San Francisco. Next year, the California Historical Society will help lead efforts to celebrate the Centennial of the PPIE, including the role of the opening of the Canal in State history.
