Last month we took a road trip to Florida, our first trip alone, - TopicsExpress

Last month we took a road trip to Florida, our first trip alone, out of state in eight years. The trip itself was harrowing, with several very scary close encounters with semis in blinding downpours of rain, and a multiple fatality accident a mile or two ahead of us outside of Chattanooga. But we had a good time at a beach cottage for a week, then we got to go down and spend a few days with Ken and Linda, my brother, and sister-in-law, and were there for a surprise 60th birthday party for Ken. In between all that though, the car broke down and had to be repaired three times while we were in Florida, all to the tune of around $1,200. Six days after we got home, it broke down again, and sat at the mechanics for two weeks until they could look at it today, whereupon they told us that the undercarriage is very badly rusted out, and basically the engine could fall out, and the car needs to be junked. Thats a pain in the patootie, but here are the things for which I am thankful. Every time the car broke down, we were in a place where we were not in danger, and we were able to get it fixed. One of the times it broke down, we were on our way to the surprise party, but they were able to fix it in time for us to make it to the party in the nick of time. And when I think about all the really bad places the brakes could have gone out on the trip, or the engine overheated and stranded us, or finally, the under-carriage of the car could have given way while we were traveling at 70 mph on the highways. I say Thank you, Jesus! He brought us safely home. And I believe that He will work the car situation out for the best too.
