Last month, we were blessed to go on a camping trip with our LOJFamily. It was at Camp Lake Hemet, a campground located 4,700 feet above sea level. We arrived at the camp late in the evening. It was already very dark, as the camp does not have any lighting. We used our flashlight but it gave us little light. Then, we made a bonfire. Wow, it gave us light and illuminated our campsite. The light from the flame attracted all of us to gather near the bonfire and the heat made us all comfortable as we spent the night sharing stories, listening to music, laughing and just enjoying each other’s company. Just like in today’s gospel, No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, that those who enter may see the light.” When we accepted Jesus in our lives to be our personal Lord and Savior, the light of Jesus lighted a flame in our hearts. The light draws us near to Jesus and we all feel the warmth of God’s love, grace and forgiveness and the love of one another. Gods grace not only illuminates the darkness in our lives, but it also fills us with spiritual light, joy, and peace. Jesus used the image of a lamp to describe how his disciples are to live in the light of his truth and love. Just as natural light illuminates the darkness and enables one to see visually, so the light of Christ shines in the hearts of believers and enables us to see the heavenly reality of Gods kingdom. Let us all fulfill our mission to be light-bearers of Christ, in our homes, in our school, in our workplace, in our neighborhood, in our church and everywhere we go, so that others may see the truth of the Gospel and experience God’s amazing love.
