Last night, I was reminded of a certain band that has been supplying their music as soundtrack to much of my life. Last Christmas, I remember recognizing a very good friends favorite song as the one linked in the end of this post, which prompted all this. In the metal scene there is probably no band more deserving of praise and notice than this one, but lets do things properly. Which most of the times it means going far back in time and this is also one of those times. At the 21st of January of 1996, barely two days after my 15th birthday I had the honor and privilege to enjoy...no to experience, because you dont simply listen to SAVATAGE, one of their live acts which also happened to be the first concert I had ever been to in my life, in ΡΟΔΟΝ Live. To say that it was one of the most breathtaking and exhilarating birthday gifts I have received in my life would be a serious understatement. I cant describe in words the magnificent joyride it has been, going through their discography from that point on, discovering one life-changing track after another. With lyrics so poetic as if stolen by a muse riding a tidal wave of near divine inspiration, and music with melodies so hauntingly enchanting, they could ensnare your heart into a world apart from our own. Each a masterpiece able to thaw hearts and elate souls. Yet they took it a step further, matching words to sounds with such ingenuity and talent, to make up for the other senses. They did so to such a degree as to unfold stories woven with an uncanny clarity and so vivid that you found yourself challenged to reach out and think you could actually touch their protagonists. Years later they exist in a different “reincarnation”, TSO or Trans-Siberian Orchestra. A seasonal sensation with the same amazing music but a far more family friendly format. Since then, TSOs albums have gone platinum something that no Savatage album had ever accomplished, with most of their concerts being sold out to the point they need two complete bands to handle their shows. Although as a fan I am quite happy that they managed to find some of the success they deserved in one form rather than another, I still believe that one must not forget the past or their roots for they define the person they have become. So for the reasons presented above I would like to share this with all of you. https://youtube/watch?v=yZSWKB1_o4E Feel free to share it with others and start on a journey that I fondly revisit myself. Kind of a Christmas gift to everyone, since music nowadays seems without any magic or soul.
