Last night I went to Lilys room to read her a bedtime story and she was already asleep, snuggled warmly in her little nest of blankets, her stuffed animal friends arrayed around her. The tiny face that I so love still and calm, her back rising and falling with her breathing, and my heart was so full, so overwhelmed with the joy of her existence that I sat for a time, tears of joy streaming down my face and remembered. All the Lilys I have known were there last night. The soft, warm infant sleeping peacefully on my chest, the giddy one year old wobbling happily across the living room, the two year old clinging fiercely to my leg on her first day of preschool, all the Lilys. Lily is a wondrous child, with a warm, caring and loving heart. And I am so honored, so blessed to be a part of her life.
