Last night I went to the Hat City jam session. Running the session and subbing for his father Mike Lee, was Julian Lee, a young man I have known since he was at least a freshman in high school. He is now a student and Julliard and playing the saxophone at a truly high level. There was also a young drummer there whos name I believe was Zach. Zach was playing all the right stuff, but a bit heavy handed. Im the middle of my solo I turned to him and said something like, Relax or settle down. He responded in kind and finished the song with a decent solo. Ted Chubb introduced us afterwards, and Zach thanked me for correcting him. This was so refreshing!!!!! This young man is focused on being a student in this music. In an era where every other word out of a young cats mouth is, hes vibing me, meaning that someone isnt showing them love because they didnt tell them how great they sounded, this young man showed the right attitude, one that will pay dividends in the future!!!!
