Last night at work at the Dollar General in Parish a group of six - TopicsExpress

Last night at work at the Dollar General in Parish a group of six African American men came in. One asked what the address of the store was, which we told him and he put it into a GPS. The others wandered around finally purchasing several small items. After a few minutes they left. Another hour went by and they were back. This time they wanted to know what town they were in. That went into the phone. Again they shopped for a few snack items. Some used the rest room. Then they went back out. Several more minutes went by and one came in and asked my co-worker what the zip code for Parish was and he left with that info. Being two women alone in the store, some anxiety was creeping in. Another few minutes and one came back in to purchase tissues. I asked him if they were having car problems and he then said that they were in a car wreck on 81 and he and five of his team mates were waiting for their coach to come down from Canton College to get them! They were returning to the College from Thanksgiving break when they were sideswiped by a car and forced off the road during the snow we got. His car was totaled. I then told them that they could come in the store where it was warm and though I didnt have chairs they could at least keep warm. He thanked me but said, well, we didnt think you would appreciate a group of us just standing around. How sad is it that he would have been right had I not found out his story and that they were a stranded bunch of college students? The events of the past week or so coming out of Missouri have given us a new found fear that the majority did not and do not deserve. The coach picked them up shortly after, but I regretted not having invited them into the warmth sooner. I pray they had a safe trip home and thank God no one was hurt in the accident that brought them to our town.
