Last night in Napoli turned out to be quite an an experience. When I first decided to travel to Napoli by myself, I got a lot of negative reactions. Everyone told me that this city is unsafe, racist, filthy, and boring. Except for the food, theres really nothing to it. However, Ive stayed here for 4 days and had the time of my life. First I met some great people at my hostel, La Controra, who made me feel right at home. The people at restaurants and shops have been super sweet and helped me put when they knew I know no Italian. Way to go, sign language! Instead of walking around in the rich district, I walked numerous times in the working class district, the Centro, and never felt unsafe. Coming back to last night, Shayne Franzman and I decided to walk to Mergellina from Salvator Rosa where we had to meet Vivian Chinyere over dinner. Its a 4km scenic route so we didnt mind. On our way we got directed to the wrong place by some locals, got followed by a lighter salesman who spoke no English but just kept saying Mergellina over and over again. I was a bit worried but turns out, he was telling us we were going the way. We chose to ignore him and walked an hour in the wrong direction. Finally, we mapped it on my phone and found what we had done. We took a cab (for the first time in Europe) and reach our destination. We finished dinner around 10 pm and head to the metro station to get back to the hostel. When we reached there, there are just two other guys at the station waiting for the same train. A third guy came in and we find out the train is delayed by an hour. Ah! Italy. Shayne and I ended up chatting with these guys and soon enough the station master joined us in a 20 minute long conversation in all Italian. The train finally arrived and we made our way back home at 11.30pm. Napoli has been safe. Ill miss this place and its people.,
