Last night our Honolulu Museum of Art Collectors group kicked off its 2014-2015 program with a #Connoisseurship Salon with director Stephan Jost: Good Better Best Salon. He focused on masters of the Northern Renaissance—Albrecht Dürer, Martin Schongauer, Rembrandt—along with examples of book pages pre- and post-moveable type. What a great mix of people—who all asked insightful questions. We discussed watermarks, horses butts, Dürers virtuosity, how the rise of printing mirrors the changes in todays digital age, and how great artists, now matter the era, knew each other, and why people collect (among many other things).
