Last night started out so promising, after all it was “Clean Sheet Night”. But that jubilant glee quickly turned to back throbbing disappointment. At exactly 11:47 p.m. I was startled awake by a sensation that can best be described as laying on a sheet of three-quarter inch plywood. I know it was exactly 11:47 because I had to LOOK UP to see my alarm clock. In our zeal to place clean sheets upon the bed, we unplugged the hose that supplies air to my side of our expensive air mattress. Rather than take ten minutes to fix the problem, I kissed my wife good-bye and, with pillow in hand, began a trek to parts of the house-hold unknown. My first stop took me to the den sofa where I encountered a semi-feral house cat which, like a Sooner in the 1889 Land Run, had claimed the sofa and was in no mood for my claim-jumping. My next stop was the living room. Stretched out upon that “company only couch”, I quickly went to sleep. However, my slumber was short lived as the Grandfather clock in the room chimed every 15-minutes to remind me that it had been 15-minutes since it last disturbed me. All of this to say, if you encounter me today, I will be sleep deprived and my not be my usual jovial self.
