Last night the GTA hosted a thought provoking lecture by political commentator Will Hutton which was streamed live from London to an invited audience of business leaders and politicians watching from Guernsey. The lecture was one of a series being run by Plymouth University titled Beyond Capitalism? bit.ly/19qMzxz > In his lecture, Will challenged accepted views on capitalism by highlighting its failures and advocated a move towards stake holder capitalism. When asked what was the one change he would like to make he proposed putting the ‘Moral DNA’ back into companies; with an obligation on the board to deliver on their moral purpose to meet the real objectives of the company, not just their financial obligation to shareholders. Following the lecture there was a lively debate opened by Deputy Gavin St Pier and chaired by Dr Elaine Monkhouse. An appreciative audience voted overwhelmingly for the GTA to arrange future events.
