Last night two RCPD officers were involved in a shooting on Sheridan Lake Road. The suspect was pulled over on a vehicle stop while driving an ATV. He ran from the officers. One officer chased and tried to stop him, and the suspect pulled out a handgun and began firing. The officer and suspect were engaged in a struggle as the suspect was firing. The other officer on scene fired at the suspect, striking him at least once. The suspect, Harold Murphy, died at the scene. Were very thankful this morning that our officers and no other members of the community were injured in this incident. As is standard, the SD Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting, and will release a full report later this month.
