Last night was a very cold night for Joplin. Our officers spent some time checking on our homeless individuals to make sure that they had adequate shelter and that they were doing ok. Officers were able to locate one person who was homeless that did not have adequate shelter and gave that person a ride to the Salvation Army so that they could get warm and have some shelter. We also took a call last night from an elderly person whose service dog had taken off from her residence. Officers spent about thirty minutes out in the cold looking for the service dog. The service dog was eventually reunited with the owner. Temperatures are expected to be very low again tonight. It is a good idea to be sure and check on your neighbors as well as those that may not have adequate heating. City buildings are available for people to warm themselves during normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8am until 5pm. The locations of these city buildings are: City Hall, 602 South Main; Joplin Health Department, 321 East 4th Street; Dr. Donald Clark Public Safety Center, 303 East 3rd; Joplin Athletic Center, 3010 West 1st Street; Public Safety Training Center, 5500 Dennis Weaver Drive; Joplin Regional Airport, 7331North Highway 43.
