Last night, while driving the bus (its what I do for a living), I saw the most stunning example of poor roadsense that Id ever seen. At the point where Yates St. splits off of Fort St. I (barely) saw a bicycle fly through a crosswalk without turning to look at traffic (like 18,000lb buses quickly approching). Said bicycle had no rear light to make it visible to traffic approaching from behind the cyclist. The young woman on this bicycle proceeded to continue down Yates in the lefthand lane of the one way street (which has a bicycle lane on the righthand side.), texting continuously and looking up once or twice a block. As I was pulling in and out of stops I was basically driving along the opposite side of the street, stunned and aghast at her thoughtlessness from Harrison to Blanshard. 1.4km and Im not sure how long she had been doing it before that or how long she did it for (I was stopped at Blanshard for a bit longer to let an older gentleman with a walker off.) Tonight she rode my bus and stuck her bike on the bike rack.
