Last nights preview of TransParent and panel with the films - TopicsExpress

Last nights preview of TransParent and panel with the films director/producer Natasha T. Miller and local trans* activists BeyonG en Pum was amazing! The panel was an important moment to reflect on the ways in which transphobia, racism, misogyny and poverty intersect for trans* people of color both here and in Detroit, where the film was set. Local trans* activists BeyonG and Pum shared with us the Dutch context that trans* people of color have to navigate and brought home the point that trans PoC face marginalization not only in society in general, but also within LGBTQ communities and spaces that are safe for cisgener PoC. It is still the case that transphobia, but also racism, misogyny, poverty and violence generally impact trans* PoC hardest. They also spoke on trans*-activism and trans*-justice in the Netherlands and methods they employ as activists to increase the visibility of trans* PoC. BeyonG is projectleader of Respect2Love, a LGBTQ project of COC that specifically aims to create safe spaces for queers of color. She is also the initiator of TransUnited, which is an organization specifically for trans* PoC. Pum involved in various queer, anti-racist spaces, such as Vrankrijk and Queeristan. Check out all of these initiatives and follow the film TransParent (which will be released beginning of next year) at transparentdoc
