Last school-not-starting related post from me today. And Im - TopicsExpress

Last school-not-starting related post from me today. And Im posting this in case it helps other parents on tight budgets to not go crazy: my plan to educate my kids on the days I cannot afford to pay for tutoring, is as follows. Morning: get outside and play at an educational setting. (Like watching the Mexican Tall Ship come in on Tuesday morning at the Quay, or the Ecology Centre or walk on a local trail.) Let the kids pick a theme for that day and see what we can observe about that theme, talk about it, etc. And maybe we can work math concepts into this like grouping, patterns, addition/subtraction, etc. After lunch: Journaling. My Kindergartener should be able to draw what he remembers most about the morning and maybe write a few key words about it if he wants my help. Or I can try to have him write the date. My Gr. 3r can write a longer description and date. Then, either a page in their math workbook or have them choose their own project to work on, hopefully related to the theme for the day. After 3pm: either their regular sports activities or take them to the BMX trail at InterRiver Park or some other high-energy activity. Before bedtime: now I have to be super organized to make sure we can work on reading without the regular bedtime chaos. My oldest can read himself. My youngest, Ill pause the bedtime story occasionally and let him sound out the 2-letter words like IS and ON.
