Last summer marked the first production of the new community - TopicsExpress

Last summer marked the first production of the new community theater in Brigantine, the BB Lighthouse Players. Night Watch, by Louise Fletcher, directed by Anthony Vraim and Chikita Wallace, was put on in the gymnasium at the Community Center. The people of Brigantine showed up in record numbers to see this play, which got good reviews. The Lighthouse Players learned from their first time out that the gym is not the best place to put on a play, due to the noisy air conditioners and the huge space they had to fight for the actors to be heard. The group decided to change the venue to the Brigantine Presbyterian Community Church, which has a Fellowship Room equipped with a stage and an open space large enough to seat 125 people. The room is quiet and dark, and should provide just the right setting for the next production, Rumors by Neil Simon. The play will be presented 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27 and 28 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 1. Auditions will take place at the Brigantine Community Center 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, with callbacks 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. Signups for backstage or off-stage positions (sound and light techies, prompters, set, costumes, makeup, promotion, ticket sales, box office, etc.) will take place at the same time and place. Actors will be asked to cold read from the script provided. A modest stipend is possible. Actors should be available for three nighttime rehearsals at the Presbyterian Church per week, starting after the New Year. The evenings selected will depend on the needs of the cast and directors. Tony Vraim is the director for this production, Chikita Wallace is the assistant director, and Ed Young is the set designer. For information call Joanne at 609-266-2806. This is a community project that is intended to be inclusive, not exclusive, and a way will be found for anyone interested to participate. Donations are welcome; checks can be made payable to the BB Lighthouse Players and be sent to Steve Satz, Bloomingsales Gift Shop, 4214 Harbor Beach Blvd., Brigantine, NJ 08203. Thanks to Rev. Scotland of Brigantine Presbyterian for his generous support with this venture. Submitted by Joanne Price
