Last week, April 1st, I told a heartwarming story about my beloved daughter Terry age 14, who went with me to a dance that I worked at The Jewish Community center in 1969. Well, my younger daughter Alice age 13 in 1970 wanted to go with me when I worked another Pre-teen dance at the Jewish Community Center. Close to the same scenario, I called ahead for permission to bring my daughter with me. We arrived earlier at 5:30 PM for the 7:00 PM pre-teen dance, As I did for Terry (RIP ♥), I got Alice situated at a table close to the front door. Got her a cold drink and kissed her forehead. I was stationed at the front door, close enough to her where she wouldnt feel uncomfortable or lonesome. The kids ages 11 to maybe 16 started coming in. Everything was running smooth. Alice was smiling at me and she made a few friends. Then I noticed a young man maybe age 13-14 sit down at Alices table. Next time I looked, he was a lot closer to her, Next time I looked, he was trying to hold her hand. She was in distress. She gave me that look, dad, help. I certainly didnt want to look like a bully or scare this young man, so, using all the discretion I could muster up, I walked over to Alice and kissed her forehead and said, are you having a good time honey? Whos your friend? Alice shrugged her shoulders. The young man said, hello sir, Im Barry. I did a quick hand shake and walked back to the front door. I turned around and Barry was gone. I mean gone. Later Alice told me Barry sat down and was so aggressive and pushy that she finally told him the cop at the front door was her dad. Really? Oh sure. I believe that, right, Barry said to Alice. Guess he believes me now daddy. Guess he does honey. The dance got over at 10:00 PM and after the kids were safely out of the building, Alice and I went home.
