Last week we got a quick overview of who the Doctor is and Ecclestons impact on the character. Eccleston was incredible and was a great intro but today were getting into my(and most commonly, everyone elses) favorite Doctor. So…ALLONSY! Tennant brought a life that was an amazing contrast to Ecclestons stoic war-torn Doctor. This was a Doctor that was incredibly human. He felt anger and passion, love for others, had a fury unlike any other when challenged. He fought for lives and wanted nothing more than to protect everyone against these terrible foes that stood against us. He fought the Sycorax and the Cybermen, the Daleks and the Rachnoss, Werewolves and Witches, Sontarans and Weeping Angels and he even fought the devil himself. He met Agatha Christie and William Shakespeare, he saved Queen Victoria the first and was there as Vesuvius exploded over Pompeii. Needless to say, the tenth Doctor had many interesting adventures. All the while helping us to understand him and in many ways, helping us to understand ourselves as humans. You might think this is hyperbole but I promise you it isnt and I can show you by going through my favorite episodes of Tennants three seasons : •The Girl in The Fireplace Shes on her way to Paris for the last time. Tennants first season as the Doctor only has one episode that is absolutely incredible. (Dont yell at me because I didnt put the season finale up here!) The other episodes are very good and really, Tennant only had one episode that I wasnt overly fond of.(The Sound of Drums) This one really shows off who the Doctor is and how his story works. He always remains the same age and he has to watch friend after friend wither away and that is absolutely heartbreaking. This episode showcases it in one of the best ways. •Human Nature/Family Of Blood He never raised his voice. That was the worst of it--the fury of the Time Lord. Then we discovered why, why this Doctor who had fought with Gods and demons had run away from us and hidden. He was being kind. This episode shows a lot about the Doctor. He changes into a human and has an entire life and the possibility of love with this school teacher. How everything plays out is one of the most tragic and terrifying endings in Doctor Who. •Blink Dont look away, dont even blink! Blink and youre dead! This is considered by many to be the best episode and theres a lot of evidence to support that claim. Great side characters? Yes. Incredibly terrifying and awesome villain? Yes. Some of the best writing Steven Moffat has ever put to paper? Yes! This episode doesnt even feature the doctor for more than 10-15 minutes. The star of this episode is Sally Sparrow played by the lovely Carey Mulligan. She does a great job of carrying across the human elements of being around the Doctor and having to deal with horrible monsters with nothing more than some fairly basic instructions. The Weeping Angels are absolutely terrifying. They can only move when youre not looking at them. Hence the no blinking. When they catch you they send you back in time and feed off the years that you didnt live like you were supposed to. •Fires of Pompeii Thats just it Donna, its either 20,000 people or the whole world. One of the most tragic hours of television that I have ever watched. Sometimes the Doctor cant do anything, sometimes he just has to let fixed points in time take their toll on humanity. He has to make impossible decisions that only he is capable of making. Its a great episode. •Midnight Why are you repeating? The episode gets better the more I watch it because we still dont know what the monster was! The Doctor is on vacation and hes on a train with nine other people. One of them becomes inhabited by a monster that repeats everything that the other people say. It really showcases the scriptwriters and the acting abilities of David Tennant and Lesley Sharp. The more creature learns, the faster it gets thus meaning that eventually Lesley Sharp has to say the same lines as everyone else in the exact same tone at the exact same time. Its phenomenal. The Stolen Earth/Journeys End This is one of my favorite episodes and its just so much fun. Everyone is in this episode, Sarah Jane Smith, Mickey Smith, Martha Jone, Donna Noble, Rose and Jackie Tyler, Jack Harkness and the creator of the Daleks himself, Davros. The episode has a lot of fun and rather epic moments. Its definitely a special episode for the whole series. The End Of Time Sometimes I think a time lord lives too long. This finale for Tennants time on the show starts off slow but is well worth it for some of the absolute best scenes from any Doctor. My favorite scene in any episode of Doctor Who has to be when he and Wilfred are talking on the ship about war and killing. Some of the best lines in the series are in this scene. Through these and other episodes, Tennant helped us all fall in love with this show. His best quote - Doctor : Im 906. Wilfred : We must look like ants to you. Doctor : I think you look like Giants. Next week well be taking a small hiatus on Doctor Who and any other articles because each day Ill be discussing the 75th anniversary of Marvel and its impact throughout the years and my favorite moments. Thanks for reading.
