Last year the IOC recommended that wrestling be dropped from the core sports in the 2020 Olympics. We battled back and got an extension to 2024. Most of our small fan base think Greco-Roman wrestling is boring. I thought so too before I became a member of the USAW National Coaching Staff and began to witness Greco-Roman wrestling at 4 European Championships, 5 Olympic Games and 8 World Championships. Please do not judge Greco by American standards as we are not deep and do not attract some of the gifted athletes like Kyle Dake and others. Greco has never been given the same opportunity as our Freestyle Program in many ways. I witnessed our only World Team title in Guangzhou, China. There was more action in Greco than Freestyle that year. If given a chance, we can do much more with our Greco program. If FILA had to vote today to drop one of the styles, I believe and many agree, they would drop Freestyle before they drop Greco. Where in it so let us get behind our Greco Roman program with a new staff and a new focus.
