Late Bloomer 55. It seems unimaginable to me. Wasnt it just yesterday that Richard Beatty was beating me up in third grade? That Tag Gross and Nick Gutfreund and I were raging around Allen Stevenson in our blazers and ties like Holden Caulfield under the corporal thumb of Messrs Landis, Nichols and Pariseau? That my crazy-ass mother got married for the third time and had Jason M Gross as my brother? That Bill Harris and I hitchhiked out to Block Island to chase Sharon Hegney (Lindlau) and Liz ONeil (Lindlau)? That Dan Gunther, Richard Joseph Butterfield Jr. and Renee Richards, and I were putting on Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar? That Michael Moroney, Michael McNabb, and I were watching Michael Usem pass out in Sacramento at Dead show? That I was the happiest 22 year old straight guy serving as TheatreWorks first general manager with the amazing Robert Kelley? That I was acting the class clown (please dont fail me!) at Stanford Graduate School of Business. That I met and wooed the amazing Tamara Barton who lived in that cool loft in downtown LA? That Jon Landerz and Tim Webber were making mischief with me in my Venice pad? That Wendi Niad Stearns spun my head around? That I was celebrating Denise Calls Up in Cannes with Hal Salwen, Caroleen Feeney and Stephen Nemeth? That I met Amy Powers at Jane Saidenberg and Andy Marvels New Years Eve Party and knew instantly she was the one? That we were married (thank you Rene Powers and Marty Powers) while I was wildly sick but rocked it anyway with Jennifer Wolff and Keris Salmon and so many friends in the Royalton lobby? That Jasper Harris and Cole Harris blessed us with their births? That I thought I was having a heart attack on the set of 29 Palms and being rescued by Craig D. Roth (it was a well-earned anxiety attack)? That Mitchell Peck and I were traversing the country to make Crooked Arrows? That Andy Cohen said hey, lets check out this Heathers - The Musical idea at another lunch thrown by Steve Price? That Andy Fickman said hey, great idea? That Kevin Murphy agreed? That Larry OKeefe succumbed to the notion of writing the music? And here we are 24 hours from opening in NY. How did all that fit into 55 years, and can I please have 55 more? Theres so much left to do. Grateful but not satisfied. Play on.
