Late President Nelson Mandela is no doubt a true African legend and one who will forever be remembered and revered for fight against the apartheid government . Wikipedia writes this about Late Nelson Mandela : Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (/mænˈdɛlə/;[4] Xhosa pronunciation: [xoˈliːɬaɬa manˈdeːla]; 18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, South African Communist Party Central Committee member, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was South Africas first black chief executive, and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation Highly commendable one would say, however its interesting to read about what was said of this great man few years ago . The ANC is a typical terrorist organisation ... Anyone who thinks it is going to run the government in South Africa is living in cloud-cuckoo land - Margaret Thatcher, 1987 How much longer will the Prime Minister allow herself to be kicked in the face by this black terrorist? - Terry Dicks MP, mid-1980s Nelson Mandela should be shot - Teddy Taylor MP, mid-1980 John Carlisle, Tory MP for Luton North, was furious at the BBCs screening of the 1990 Mandela concert in London. The BBC have just gone bananas over this and seem to be joining those who are making Mandela out to be a Christ-like figure, Mr Carlisle said. Suffice to say during the burial rights of this noble gentleman almost every world leader was present or represented. The question then arises how did this so-called terrorist was able to warm himself into the heart Western powers and transform himself into an institution for which books will be written, films made and which future generations will learn about in their history classes ! Nelson Mandela lost his father at a tender age of 12 years old and became a ward of Jongintaba at the Great Place in Mqhekezweni with The Nelson Mandela Foundation website writing this about his early childhood Hearing the elder’s stories of his ancestor’s valour during the wars of resistance, he dreamed also of making his own contribution to the freedom struggle of his people Madiba has he was fondly called understood the power of passive resistance locally in fighting apartheid regime as well as the respect internationally in standing your ground despite the olive branches thrown at you . Many of us are quick relate to this man and the legacy he as left behind, but how many are willing to do likewise for our great country Nigeria ?
